McLaren MCL-HY GTR revealed, 720 bhp Le Mans hypercar for the VIPs

The McLaren MCL-HY GTR is the British brand’s latest track-only machine. Derived from its upcoming FIA WEC Hypercar contender set to debut in 2027, this 720 bhp Le Mans car is for the VIPs.

While the race-spec MCL-HY is built to LMDh regulations, the GTR takes a more liberated approach. The hybrid system is replaced by a raw, twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 that pushes out around 720 bhp. Without the complexity of the Motor Generator Unit, the GTR sheds even more weight, dipping comfortably below the 1,000 kg mark. This makes it lighter than its race-going sibling.

Interestingly, it’s also more powerful in pure combustion terms. McLaren’s actual Le Mans Hypercar delivers up to 697 bhp to the rear wheels with hybrid assistance. Both machines share a carbon-fibre monocoque and were developed side by side, ensuring the customer version retains genuine motorsport DNA.

Track testing for the race car kicks off soon, but the GTR will reach select “VIP McLaren clients” by the end of next year. And ownership isn’t just about the car. Buyers are enrolled in an exclusive two-year track program across global circuits, complete with pit crew support and professional coaching.

Price? Undisclosed. But expect it to sit well above the already eye-watering $2.1 million McLaren W1.
