The Nurburgring’s official website has just published the onboard video of the Ford Mustang GTD Competition lapping the circuit in 6 min 40.835 sec. The announcement comes just hours after Manthey Racing recorded a 6 min 45 sec lap in a 911 GT3 RS.
The Mustang GTD not only beat the modified Porsche but also destroyed the lap time set by its rival, the Corvette ZR1X, by almost 9 seconds. In August last year, the ZR1X went around the track in 6 min 49.275 sec.
The GTD is the most extreme version of the Mustang. It comes with a bespoke aero package, including hydraulically controlled front flaps and an active rear spoiler, a semi-active suspension with a pushrod setup at the front and a transaxle at the back.
The Mustang GTD is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that delivers 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Mustang ever made. The engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
