Mercedes-AMG has built its reputation on big engines and even bigger attitude. Think loud V8s, rear-wheel driven drama, and that unmistakable AMG soundtrack. Then came downsizing. Hybrid tech replaced displacement. And for many enthusiasts, something was lost. Now, AMG is changing course.
AMG boss Michael Schiebe has confirmed that the brand is heading back to its roots. His vision? Cars that are “more AMG than ever before.” Not just faster, but richer in emotion and design.

At the heart of this shift is a brand-new flat-plane crank V8. Yes, a proper V8 engineered to meet modern, stricter emissions rules without losing its soul. Usually, flat-plane layouts sacrifice the deep, burbly tone AMG is known for. But engineers back at the German factory have gone deep into the camshaft tuning to bring that signature character back.
Interestingly, the brand isn’t abandoning electric vehicles and hybrids either. It will continue to make progress and innovate in these fields to make them more exciting and engaging. But the message is clear – the future will see cars that are “more AMG than ever before”.
